A newlywed couple in Sindh’s Nawabshah district took a new approach to protest against the soaring inflation in Pakistan: as they staged a demonstration against growing inflation on their way home after getting married.
Together with the Baraatis (relatives and guests of the groom), the newlyweds Yasir Barro and Dr. Sahrish Shadi held a protest against inflation and yelled slogans against rising food costs.
Baraatis, including newly married couples, marched on foot and shouted slogans against rising inflation and flour prices in Daulatpur.
The groom, Yasir, said that after marriage, the bride and groom should go home and start their new life, but the rising inflation in the country has made them not do so Instead of being forced to protest.
After the wedding, Dr. Sahrish said her spouse had proposed staging a demonstration against inflation before returning home.
A video of the unusual protest that went popular on social media showed the bride and groom yelling slogans while wearing traditional wedding clothes.
The groom, a teacher at a public school, explained that the protest was not pre-planned; rather, the idea occurred to him during the ceremony, and after discussing it with his companions, he put it into action.
