Due to commitments with the Indian Premier League (IPL), New Zealand has named its squad for an upcoming five-match T20 series against Pakistan, missing several key players. Michael Bracewell will captain the team, marking his first leadership role since his last play in March of the previous year, after overcoming injuries. Bracewell’s return to cricket was marked by his impressive performance in the Plunket Shield.
The squad includes seven veterans from T20 World Cup rosters, alongside newcomers Tim Robinson and Will O’Rourke from Wellington and Canterbury, respectively. Both have earned their spots through remarkable performances: O’Rourke, with his test debut against South Africa, and Robinson, with his prolific run-scoring in the Super Smash.
The series, featuring three games in Rawalpindi and two in Lahore, begins on April 18 and continues until the T20 World Cup starts on June 1.
The IPL has led to the unavailability of several top New Zealand players, including Trent Boult and Kane Williamson. Others, like Will Young and Tom Latham, are also missing due to other commitments and personal reasons. Tim Southee is resting for extended conditioning after a demanding schedule.
The team, under coach Gary Stead and supported by a skilled coaching team including Luke Ronchi and Brendon Donkers, will head to Pakistan on April 12. It aims for a strong performance against the Green Shirts starting April 18.
