The Punjab School Education Department has issued new guidelines to boost discipline and transparency in government schools.
Education officers at the district and tehsil levels and school principals are tasked with rigorously implementing these policies. A recent departmental circular prohibits all school personnel and students from using mobile phones during instructional hours. Teachers must set their phones to silent and submit them to the head teacher throughout the day.
The directive also underscores the importance of a professional demeanour. It mandates that all staff dress formally, requiring teachers to wear dress coats and closed shoes.
Student uniforms will include name tags and navy blue jerseys. Class representatives will wear CR sashes, and a rotating system for head boys will be established to broaden leadership opportunities.
Schools must set up soft boards for posting schedules, discipline charts, and notices. Time boards should be visible at main entrances, and motivational banners will be displayed prominently.
Structured record-keeping is essential, with all documents to be uniformly covered. Students are directed to use separate, labelled registers for core subjects like English, Urdu, Science, and Mathematics, moving away from traditional notebooks.
Teachers will keep diaries detailing daily lesson plans. Classroom standards are specified: the date, attendance, and subject highlights must be recorded daily on whiteboards, along with the main topic and key discussion points.
Regular checks of students’ uniforms, haircuts, and nails will ensure compliance with hygiene and discipline standards. Through these measures, the department seeks to foster a consistent and disciplined environment, enhance educational quality, and maintain school order.
