The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) announced an increase in the electricity tariff by Rs 4.56 per unit, attributing this adjustment to fuel charges for December 2023.
The revised revision will see power consumers facing higher charges in their February 2024 billing, except for Lifeline consumers, who are exempt from this increase.
This adjustment translates to an added financial strain of Rs 39.8 billion on consumers. This follows a prior hike on January 31, where NEPRA raised the electricity tariff by Rs5.63 per unit for monthly fuel adjustments, a decision made after reviewing a petition from the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA). This earlier increase placed an additional Rs49 billion on consumers, reflected in the subsequent month’s electricity bills.
NEPRA clarified that the latest tariff hike would not impact K-Electric customers or Lifeline consumers. At a later date, NEPRA will provide a detailed verdict regarding this adjustment, outlining the specifics of the decision and its implications for the broader consumer base.
