On Wednesday, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) sanctioned a hike of Rs1.60 per unit in the cost of electricity under the April monthly fuel adjustment. This adjustment will result in an added burden of Rs12 billion on consumers.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CCPA) had originally requested a rise of Rs2.1 per unit. Nepra approved the increase following a comprehensive review of the data, and this extra charge will reflect in customers’ bills for May.
