The appointment of Nehal Hashmi as Sindh governor has moved a step closer, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sending a summary to President Asif Ali Zardari for approval. The Prime Minister’s Office said the summary was forwarded for Hashmi’s appointment as the next governor of Sindh.
The statement also said PM Shehbaz met Hashmi in Islamabad and congratulated him on the proposed appointment. If the president approves the move, Hashmi will formally take office as Sindh governor.
At present, the official Sindh governor website still lists Kamran Khan Tessori as the governor. That means Hashmi’s appointment would take effect only after presidential approval and formal assumption of office.

Once approved, Nehal Hashmi would replace Kamran Khan Tessori, who is currently serving as governor of Sindh. Tessori has held the office since October 2022, according to the official governor’s website.
The development marks a major political change in Sindh’s top constitutional office. It also places a senior PML-N figure in line for one of the province’s most visible posts.
