In an electrifying performance, Gabe Vincent led the Miami Heat with 23 points, while teammates Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo followed closely with 21 points each.
Despite a commanding show from Nikola Jokic, the Heat outpaced the Denver Nuggets 111-108 in Sunday’s Game 2, leveling the NBA Finals.
Max Strus and Duncan Robinson further bolstered the Heat’s score with 14 and 10 points, respectively. The Heat had a promising start, lost their lead, and trailed by up to 15 points before surging back to control the game in the fourth quarter. They outplayed Denver 36-25 in the final quarter, successfully turning around an eight-point deficit.
Despite Jokic’s great 41 points from 16 out of 28 field shots, the Nuggets couldn’t maintain their lead in the final quarter. However, Jokic’s last 4-foot shot managed to reduce the Nuggets’ lag to just three points with 36 seconds remaining.
The Nuggets chose not to commit a foul during Miami’s subsequent possession. After Butler’s missed 3-point attempt, Jamal Murray failed to tie the score at the buzzer, thus sealing the Heat’s victory.
Murray contributed 18 points and 10 assists for Denver, with Aaron Gordon and Bruce Brown chipping in 12 and 11 points, respectively. The Nuggets will aim to regain their edge in Game 3 on Wednesday, hosted by Miami.
Additional Game Notes: Heat: Miami made some strategic adjustments, with Kevin Love starting and Caleb Martin, who missed Saturday’s practice due to illness, contributing from the bench. This win marks the Heat’s 13th in these playoffs, setting a record for most victories by a No. 8 seed.
Nuggets: The loss was significant for Denver, as they hadn’t been defeated since May 7. Nuggets’ legends Alex English, LaPhonso Ellis, and David Thompson were among the spectators.
Tyler Herro Update: Injured Miami Heat guard, Tyler Herro, continues his efforts to return from a broken hand, participating in a 2-on-2 game on Saturday. Despite this, his availability for Game 3 remains uncertain.
Expansion Considerations: Commissioner Adam Silver spoke before the game, prioritizing media rights deal negotiations after ratifying the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. He highlighted that any discussion of league expansion would follow these negotiations.
