For the first time, Nawaz Sharif, the head of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and former prime minister, has confirmed his plans to return to Pakistan in October this year. Currently residing in London due to health concerns since November 2019, Nawaz made this announcement at a recent meeting at Stanhope House, attended by key PML-N figures including his brother and former PM, Shehbaz Sharif.
Though the exact date is yet to be determined, sources confirm Nawaz’s return is slated for the latter half of October. Upon his return, Nawaz aims to lead the PML-N’s election campaign. Shehbaz Sharif, who asserted that his brother would comply with Pakistani laws upon return, previously hinted at this October timeline.
Nawaz, who sought medical treatment abroad following a significant deterioration in his health while in prison, has faced allegations from his family that attempts were made to poison him during the Imran Khan regime.
