Former Pakistani Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif and the party’s Senior Vice President, Maryam Nawaz, held a meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Friday.
As per the PML-N’s Twitter account, the primary focus of their discussion revolved around the current challenges confronting Pakistan and potential solutions to address these issues.
The PML-N sources claim the meeting between Nawaz Sharif and the crown prince was positive and constructive. However, the Saudi authorities issued no official statement about the meeting.
Currently, Nawaz Sharif has served as prime minister three times, and PML-N’s chief organizer Maryam Nawaz is in Saudi Arabia. They have recently completed the Umrah pilgrimage, accompanied by other family members.
The Sharif family arrived in the kingdom on April 11, marking Nawaz Sharif’s first visit to Saudi Arabia in six years. Although he initially intended to remain in the country until April 26, his son, Hussain Nawaz, and other family members have requested that he extend his stay in Jeddah, where he has a residence.
In addition to the meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Nawaz Sharif may also have the opportunity to meet with King Salman bin Abdul Aziz.
Earlier in the month, reports suggested that King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud had invited Nawaz Sharif and his brother, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to visit the kingdom and perform Umrah. This invitation is a gesture of goodwill, considering the Sharif family’s close relationship with the Saudi royal family.
