England secured a 3-1 win against Finland in the Nations League on Sunday; simultaneously, Austria defeated Erling Haaland’s Norway with a score of 5-1. Jack Grealish, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Declan Rice contributed to England’s victory, whereas Arttu Hoskonen scored a consolation goal for Finland. Serving as the interim manager, Lee Carsley made significant changes to the lineup following a recent defeat.
“The team responded excellently,” Carsley stated on ITV.
He praised the three well-executed goals and recognized the team’s improved control and possession throughout the game. Manchester City’s Grealish initiated the scoring with a 17-pass sequence culminating in the 18th minute. Angel Gomes set up the goal at central midfield with a precise pass, which Grealish converted successfully.
Despite creating several chances, Finland struggled to challenge England’s goalkeeper, Dean Henderson. Alexander-Arnold, playing at left-back, doubled the lead with a striking free-kick in the 74th minute. Rice solidified the win by scoring in the final minutes, marking England’s third win in four Group B2 matches.
While Finland remains at the bottom of the table without wins, their goal tally doubled when Hoskonen scored late in the game. Meanwhile, Greece maintained a lead in the group by defeating the Republic of Ireland 2-0.

In Austria, Marko Arnautovic led with two goals, helping to secure a 5-1 victory over Norway. The match saw Arnautovic score early, with Alexander Sorloth equalizing for Norway before halftime. However, Austria regained control, with goals from Lienhart, Posch, and Gregoritsch sealing the win.
Arnautovic’s initial goal set the pace, and he later converted a penalty to reestablish Austria’s lead. The Austrian defence effectively contained Haaland, limiting his opportunities throughout the game.
This round of matches sets the stage for upcoming encounters, with Belgium hosting France and Germany facing the Netherlands in Munich.
