The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) revealed its list of candidates for the National Assembly on Friday, in preparation for the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8.
The announcement, made via X (formerly Twitter), confirms PTI’s commitment to fielding candidates in 233 out of the 266 general seats available in the National Assembly. This comprehensive list suggests that PTI may not pursue any seat adjustment strategies.
Key Candidates and Constituencies
Among the prominent names, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan is set to run from NA-10 Buner. The list also includes Sher Afzal Marwat for NA-41 Lakki Marwat, Ayaz Amir for NA-58 Chakwal, Murad Saeed for NA-4 (Swat), and Omar Ayub Khan for NA-18 (Haripur). Additionally, former national assembly speaker Asad Qaiser is nominated for NA-19 (Swabi), with other notable candidates like Ali Muhammad Khan, Shahryar Afridi, and Ali Amin Gandapur contesting from various constituencies.
Lahore Candidates and Pending Nominations
In Lahore, PTI has introduced candidates like Aaliyah Hamza, Wasim Qadir, and Latif Khosa for various constituencies. However, certain areas, such as NA-132 in Kasur, where PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif is set to compete, remain without a PTI nominee. The party also faces indecision in four Lahore constituencies – NA-117, NA-119, NA-120, and NA-125 – as well as in NA-74 Sialkot, NA-82 Sargodha, and NA-94, where candidates are yet to be announced. This delay in nominations indicates ongoing strategic considerations within the party as the election date approaches.
