A sessions court issued notices regarding a post-arrest bail plea from an SUV driver involved in the Karsaz traffic incident. The court scheduled a hearing for Friday.
Natasha Danish, the driver, faces charges for a fatal accident on August 19 that resulted in two deaths. Her counsel, Aamir Mansoob Qureshi, contends that Danish, who arrived from Britain on August 2 and held a valid British driving license, should be granted bail.
During the proceedings, Judge Shahid Ali Memon notified the deputy district public prosecutor and others, setting the next hearing for September 6. Additionally, a separate bail request in a drug-related case was submitted for Danish before Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Raza Ansari, who also set the same date for a hearing.
Qureshi argued in court that Danish, undergoing psychiatric treatment for 19 years, could not have anticipated the accident’s consequences. He stated that her medical condition undermines any claims of criminal intent.
Further complicating matters, Qureshi highlighted issues with the handling of evidence. He noted a two-day delay in processing blood and urine samples, questioning the chain of custody and suggesting potential manipulation by investigative authorities.
Moreover, after initial tests, the investigating officer sought to retest the samples, which the court later blocked. Despite the court’s decision, further attempts were made to obtain and test samples, actions Qureshi described as unlawful.
Qureshi also defended Danish’s legal right to drive in Pakistan, citing the international recognition of her British license, valid under Pakistani law for six months after her arrival.
In a related development, Danish’s husband, Danish Iqbal, received interim bail from the sessions court against a surety of Rs100,000 after initially securing protective bail from the Sindh High Court. The court has scheduled further proceedings for September 6.
