Police and Rangers cleared the Super Highway late Friday evening after protesters dispersed. The crowd had blocked the road for about ninety minutes, demanding the suspension of Malir SSP Rao Anwar over Naqeebullah’s killing.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Dr. Arif Alvi had announced the blockade. On January 13, SSP Rao Anwar reported that police shot and killed four alleged terrorists in a Shah Latif Town encounter. Later, authorities identified one of the deceased as Naseemullah, also known as Naqeebullah, a 27-year-old resident of South Waziristan.
Naqeebullah’s family stated he disappeared on January 3 from Sohrab Goth and died in what they believe was a staged encounter. SSP Rao Anwar claimed the actions were a response to operations against PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh.
