Lahore’s Nanbais have threatened to raise Roti and Naan pricing if the government doesn’t lower wheat flour prices.
The Nanbais group called an emergency meeting Thursday and threatened to raise bread prices.
The price of a 15kg wheat bag has risen from Rs1,400 to Rs1,775, said Nanbais association president Aftab Zai. A bag of quality flour is now Rs9,500.
He warned the authorities about the price spike, or Roti and Naan prices would rise.
Lahore’s district administration negotiated with tandoor proprietors to raise Naan to Rs22 and roti to Rs14.
Before the judgment, naan cost Rs20, and roti cost Rs13.
Two weeks ago, proprietors arbitrarily raised bread prices, forcing the district administration to threaten action.
The Muttahida Naan-Roti Association would offer roti for Rs15, up from Rs12, and naan for Rs25, up from Rs20.
Waheed Abbasi, the association’s vice president, said the district administration failed to manage grain prices.
