The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced the intention to install automated self-service kiosks across Karachi to make the CNIC issuance process more accessible and efficient.
NADRA’s automatic kiosks are located in strategic high-traffic areas, including NADRA mega centres, railway stations, airports, shopping malls, educational institutions, and government offices.
Following a successful pilot in Islamabad, NADRA is expanding the deployment of these innovative kiosks to Karachi to address the long waiting times at service centres. These machines simplify several processes, such as renewing ID cards, retrieving lost ones, and applying for Child Registration Certificates (Form B).
NADRA’s User-Friendly Kiosks Features
Citizens can interact with the kiosks to input basic information, undergo biometric verification, and take necessary photographs. The kiosks offer options for both urgent and regular processing times. After completing the application, users can pay the fees via a generated QR code using services like JazzCash, Easypaisa, or credit and debit cards.
Ammar Haider, Assistant Director at NADRA, mentioned that the agency would initially launch the service at mega centres in Karachi before expanding to other public locations. “Our goal is to speed up the process and make it more accessible for the residents of Karachi,” Haider stated.
The automated system aims to deliver ID cards within 15 to 30 days after application, significantly reducing the hassle and time typically associated with manual processes.

By installing these machines in high-traffic pedestrian areas, NADRA seeks to bring its services closer to the citizens, thus streamlining the ID card application process for everyone in Karachi.
NADRA has also enhanced its services for Pakistani nationals living in Canada. They now have the opportunity to apply for the National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP), essential for those planning to travel or settle abroad. This card permits dual nationals to enter Pakistan without a visa. It is available for application online or at various consulates, including Canada, thereby increasing convenience for overseas Pakistanis.
