The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched a user-friendly process for renewing the Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) through its Pak ID mobile app.

The digital initiative allows citizens to update their CNIC from the comfort of their homes, eliminating the need for long queues and office visits. It enhances convenience for Pakistanis both locally and abroad.

How to Renew CNIC Using the Pak ID App

To renew your CNIC:

  1. Download the Pak ID app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
  2. Register and log in, then tap “Apply ID Card.”
  3. Select “Myself” or “My Blood Relatives” (applicant must be present for family renewals).
  4. Take a photo on a white background, ensuring the face fits the circular guide, without glasses.
  5. Choose “Renew,” verify fingerprints using the phone’s camera, and sign on-screen or upload a signature.
  6. Fill in the required details and select a processing category:
    • Executive: 7 days
    • Urgent: 12 days
    • Normal: 30 days
  7. Pay via Easypaisa, JazzCash, e-sahulat, or debit/credit card after NADRA’s approval.
  8. Receive the renewed CNIC at your provided address within the chosen timeframe.

The Pak ID app, available on Android and iOS, enables CNIC renewal, modification, and reprints, providing a seamless user experience. This initiative aligns with NADRA’s digital upgrades, which include online birth and death registrations, ensuring that identity services are both accessible and efficient for millions.

The app reduces the need for in-person visits, saving time and enhancing security. It supports Pakistan’s goal of digital governance, allowing citizens, including those in the diaspora, to maintain valid IDs with ease. This initiative could establish a benchmark for other civic services in Pakistan. NADRA’s Pak ID app revolutionises the renewal of CNICs, improving accessibility and efficiency. It also strengthens Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and encourages citizen engagement.
