On May 16, 2025, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) announced a groundbreaking initiative to issue lifetime ID cards featuring a green heart symbol to citizens who voluntarily register as organ donors.
Eligible individuals, aged 18 and above and registered with authorised donor officials, can apply for these smart ID cards or NICOPs at NADRA offices or via the Pak-ID mobile app, as shared in a NADRA social media post. This move celebrates humanitarian efforts and modernises Pakistan’s identity system.
In collaboration with provincial governments and the World Bank, NADRA is advancing the Uraan Pakistan program by introducing a digital birth and death registration system across hospitals and healthcare centres. Under the National Registration and Biometric Policy Framework, this upgrade ensures accurate tracking of life events, enhancing governance and economic growth. Web sources highlight NADRA’s ongoing digitisation efforts, including smart NICs with advanced security features.

NADRA Free ID Cards
NADRA has also launched a program offering free national ID cards to first-time applicants, simplifying access to secure identification. This follows the introduction of non-chip smart ID cards in 2024, which provided enhanced security at lower costs, as reported by Geo News.
These initiatives reflect NADRA’s commitment to digital transformation and inclusive identity management. The organ donor ID cards, free IDs, and digital registration systems strengthen Pakistan’s documentation infrastructure, fostering public trust and efficiency.
NADRA’s efforts are set to streamline civil registration and promote humanitarian causes, with ongoing updates expected as the programs expand.
