National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Aftab Sultan has submitted his resignation.
He was appointed the chief National Accountability Bureau for three years in July last year.
According to the reports, the NAB chief also met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who accepted his resignation.
Atfab Sultan, while talking to local news channel Geo News, confirmed that he had resigned a few days earlier. Aftab Sultan stated, “I was asked to perform certain things that were unacceptable to me.”
After Judge (retired) Javed Iqbal’s term expired last year, he was appointed by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government.
It should be noted that Aftab Sultan had served as IG of the Punjab Police before being selected as Director General of the Intelligence Bureau, a position he held during the PTI’s 2014 sit-in in Islamabad.
Before, he served as DG IB under the administration of then-prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani.
A NAB reference was also granted against him, and he remained a co-accused alongside former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in relation to alleged irregularities in purchasing vehicles for the Saarc summit.
The NAB failed to submit the reference. Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry, a former foreign secretary, was also charged with creating an Rs1.95 billion loss to the national treasury.
