KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has formally requested Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for deployment of army in Karachi’s NA-246 constituency during April 23 by-elections.
PTI candidate from the seat, Imran Ismail, has dispatched an application to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza, provincial election commission chief and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah.
In the letter, sources said, the PTI candidate expressed possibility of rigging in elections and requested CEC to hold polls under military supervision.
Sources said the ECP is also contemplating army’s deployment to avert any untoward incident.
Reports said election authorities are also discussing options to use military as a ‘quick response force’ by deploying police and Rangers inside polling stations in Karachi.
