A 10-foot mysterious metal monolith appeared on a remote hill in Wales, puzzling locals and fueling online speculation about extraterrestrial activity.
Runner Richard Haynes discovered this steel structure in the Hay-on-Wye region, joining a series of similar monoliths that have emerged globally.
The New York Post reported that Haynes initially mistook it for a scientific apparatus but soon realized its peculiar nature, noting its triangular shape and stainless steel construction. Despite its size, he estimated two people could easily transport it.
The origin of the Welsh monolith remains unknown, though similar ones in Utah and California in 2020 were attributed to The Most Famous Artist, a New Mexico artist group. While these installations sparked E.T.-inspired theories, the group later claimed responsibility.
In Turkey, a monolith that surfaced in 2021 was a promotional tactic for a space program. Additional monoliths have appeared in Romania, Ukraine, the Isle of Wight, Cornwall’s Merry Maidens stone circle, and Somerset, England—where one bore the inscription “not Banksy,” hinting at the enigmatic artist.
