Syed Mustafa Kamal, senior leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan and Federal Minister for Health, on Saturday made serious allegations against MQM founder Altaf Hussain, claiming he orchestrated the murder of Dr Imran Farooq while under the influence of alcohol.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Kamal alleged that the killing was planned as a “gift” on Altaf Hussain’s birthday. He described the act as deliberate and premeditated, adding that it reflected the MQM founder’s mindset at the time.

The federal minister also accused Altaf Hussain of creating what he called “unnecessary controversy” following the recent death of Dr Imran Farooq’s widow. According to Kamal, false narratives were promoted even during a period of mourning.

Kamal further alleged that donations were collected from across the world in the name of repatriating the widow’s body to Pakistan. He questioned the transparency of the fundraising and called the actions exploitative.

“These actions show a repeated pattern of emotional manipulation,” Kamal said, adding that such conduct had caused long-lasting harm to families associated with the party.
Dr Imran Farooq, a senior MQM leader, was assassinated in London in 2010. His murder remains one of the most high-profile political killings linked to Pakistan’s urban politics.
