ISLAMABAD: Former senator Mushtaq Ahmed, recently released from Israeli custody, has officially joined the Tehreek-e-Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP), a multi-party alliance formed to safeguard Pakistan’s Constitution.
Ahmed, who parted ways with Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) shortly after his return to Pakistan earlier this month, met with TTAP chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Nasir Abbas on Saturday. The leaders discussed the prevailing political situation, emphasising the rule of law, democratic stability, and the supremacy of the Constitution.
According to party sources, a formal announcement confirming his inclusion in TTAP will be made soon.
The TTAP alliance, established in April 2025, includes several opposition parties — among them the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), Balochistan National Party (BNP-M), Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), and Majlis-e-Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen (MWM).

Seasoned politician Mahmood Khan Achakzai, who also heads PkMAP, serves as the chairman of the alliance. TTAP’s stated objective is to ensure constitutional supremacy, civilian democracy, and protection of citizens’ rights amid Pakistan’s evolving political challenges
Mushtaq Ahmed returned to Pakistan on October 9, landing in Islamabad from Amman, Jordan, via a private airline. He was warmly received by supporters upon arrival.
Dar also expressed appreciation to countries that assisted Pakistan in securing Ahmed’s release. Ahmed was arrested by Israeli forces on October 2 while aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian convoy transporting medicine and food supplies to Gaza.
The flotilla consisted of more than 40 civilian boats carrying over 500 parliamentarians, lawyers, and activists from across the world. Leading a five-member Pakistani delegation, Ahmed participated in an international effort to deliver aid and express solidarity with the people of Palestine.
