A severe snowstorm is expected to hit Murree, prompting local authorities to issue a strict travel advisory for tourists and residents.
The District Police Officer (DPO) Murree, Dr Muhammad Raza Tanveer Supra, warned that heavy snowfall is likely from Monday evening until Tuesday evening, increasing the risk of road accidents and travel disruptions.
The DPO urged people to avoid travelling to Murree at night. He explained that falling temperatures can cause snow on roads to freeze into “black ice”, a transparent, glass-like surface that is extremely dangerous.
On black ice, vehicle brakes often fail to respond, making night travel potentially life-threatening, even for experienced drivers.

Snow Chains Mandatory for Entry into Murree
Authorities have announced that no vehicle will be allowed to enter Murree without snow chains installed on its tyres.
Dr Raza Tanveer emphasised that operating snow-clearing machinery during darkness and fog is highly challenging. Unprepared vehicles can obstruct emergency and clearance operations.
Travellers who must journey before the advisory period are instructed to:
- Ensure the fuel tank is completely full
- Confirm the mechanical fitness of the vehicle
- Check that brakes, wipers, heaters, and defoggers are fully functional
- Drive at low speed on icy roads
- Maintain a minimum 50-meter distance from the vehicle ahead
The DPO also advised motorists to:
- Keep windows slightly open while using heaters to prevent oxygen depletion
- Use fog lights and hazard lights during snowfall or low visibility
- Avoid parking on highways or slopes, which can block snow-clearing operations
- Strictly follow police instructions at checkpoints and on duty routes
Murree Police have appealed to the public to cooperate fully with law enforcement and avoid unnecessary travel during the snowfall period. Officials stress that adhering to safety advisories can prevent accidents and save lives.
