Journalist Muneeb Farooq has been vocal about various developments concerning Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan following the arrest of former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Chief Lt. Gen (Retd.) Faiz Hameed.
In a series of appearances on different talk shows, Farooq made several claims about the political landscape in Pakistan. Notably, he suggested that Imran Khan might be handed over to the military, indicating a significant shift in how political figures could be dealt with moving forward.
Discussing the broader implications of recent arrests, Farooq commented, “These arrests are now going into double figures, involving civilian facilitators, individuals in the legal profession, and businessmen.” He highlighted that among the civilian facilitators are YouTubers and journalists, pointing to a widening net of accountability.
Farooq also touched on the accountability of former judges compared to military officers, noting, “The military has set a precedent by holding its former high-ranking officer accountable, which sends a strong message to other institutions.” He speculated that this could lead to a resolution of long-standing issues between the judiciary and the establishment.
Regarding General Faiz Hameed’s situation, Farooq noted, “His arrest and subsequent court-martial reflect the strength of the current military leadership and the complete control the Army Chief has over his institution.” He linked Faiz Hameed’s alleged actions to various issues, including the Panama JIT, suggesting broader implications of his conduct.
“The arrest of General Faiz is related to events of May 9. Despite previous warnings from the military to cease certain activities, he did not comply,” Farooq added, hinting at ongoing conflicts within the power corridors.
Muneeb Farooq’s statements paint a picture of a tumultuous political and judicial landscape in Pakistan, where alignments and accountability are in flux.
