The 19 sets of fingerprints collected from Saif Ali Khan’s residence after the attempted burglary and knife attack on him do not match the fingerprints of the accused, Shariful Islam, according to the ongoing investigation.
Mumbai Police sent the fingerprints found at Khan’s home to the state Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) fingerprint bureau. A system-generated report confirmed that the prints did not match Shariful’s. The CID has informed the police that the test results were negative. As a result, Mumbai Police has sent additional samples for further testing.
On January 15, the 54-year-old actor was attacked in his home after an intruder broke in and confronted him. The intruder stabbed Khan six times, one of the injuries affecting his spine. The intruder fled the scene, and Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital with severe injuries. Doctors confirmed that one stab wound was dangerously close to his spinal cord, causing spinal fluid leakage. However, Khan is recovering well and was discharged on Tuesday with a week’s rest advised.
Accused Suspect and His Motive
The accused, Shariful Islam, a Bangladeshi national, entered India illegally. He claimed to have been promised fake citizenship documents in exchange for money, which allegedly led him to attempt the burglary at Khan’s home. Police are now working to identify the individual who made this offer to Shariful.

Mumbai Police contacted Western Railway for assistance in identifying the suspect captured in CCTV footage near Khan’s residence. Since the footage was unclear, facial recognition technology was used to help identify potential suspects who matched the intruder’s appearance. While Shariful was arrested based on this footage, police continued to gather evidence to strengthen the case.
