The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) will announce its future course of action today (Thursday) following the funeral of its young slain worker Waqas Shah who was shot dead during Rangers raid on party headquarters, Nine Zero, yesterday.
Yesterday, paramilitary Rangers raided the offices, seizing a “huge quantity” of weapons and arresting several criminals, including one convicted of murdering TV journalist Wali Babar.
The raid sparked an angry response from MQM whose leader Altaf Hussain claimed that “the security personnel brought weapons and ammunitions ‘wrapped in blankets’ with them and then claimed recovery from there” (Nine Zero).
MQM claimed that its worker, Shah, 25, was killed in firing by Rangers. However, spokesman of the security forces denied the charge.
According to Samaa correspondent, the funeral prayers of Shah will be offered after Zuhar prayers at Jinnah Ground, Azizabad.
Party sources said MQM would announce its future strategy after Shah’s burial.
MQM demanded judicial enquiry into the killing in a meeting with Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah late on Wednesday. The CM has held out assurance to MQM.
