Karachi: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Friday submitted resolutions to the Sindh Assembly targeting PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari and PTI chairman Imran Khan, in a tit-for-tat response shortly after the House passed resolutions condemning contentious statements by MQM chief Altaf Hussain.
The resolutions submitted by the MQM claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari had given controversial remarks against the military and national institutions.
Speaking to reporters outside the Sindh Assembly shortly after passage of a resolution condemning Altaf Hussain, MQM leader Mohammad Hussain said that there was an understanding that no resolution would be brought against any party in the assembly session.
MQM leader Syed Sardar Ahmed said that Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani did not hear the MQM lawmakers, and that the resolutions against Altaf Hussain were passed without listening to the concerns of MQM lawmakers.
The resolutions against the MQM chief were tabled by the PTI, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Ahmed said that proper rules and procedures were not followed in adopting the resolution and that the session was immediately adjourned after the resolution was rushed through the House.
The MQM’s resolutions against Asif Zardari and Imran Khan are now likely to be taken up when the Sindh Assembly resumes it proceedings.
