The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) earlier yesterday launched the “Clean Karachi” campaign in all the six districts of the city a day after developing serious differences with the provincial government of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
Both the parties are at loggerheads after MQM accused the provincial government of creating hurdles in the campaign by refusing to provide machinery and other equipment for the drive.
While the MQM accuses the government of creating hurdles, the local government minister says he would not allow use of machinery for political point scoring.
Wasim Akhtar, MQM’s candidate for Karachi, Mayor kicked off the campaign in Nuamish, an area near the mausoleum Quaid-e-Azm Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Talking to media, Akhtar said the party was relying on a few vehicles of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) as the Sindh government was reluctant to support the drive.
Dr Farooq Sattar, senior MQM leader and National Assembly Member, visited different areas of the city to monitor the campaign which started at 9:00 am and would continue till 5:00 pm.
