The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has declared its support for the Awami National Party’s (ANP) candidate, Shahi Syed, in the PS-88 Karachi constituency for the 2024 general election.
During a joint press briefing, MQM-P’s Senior Deputy Convener, Mustafa Kamal, announced the party’s unconditional backing for Shahi Syed of the ANP in the forthcoming election. Kamal hailed the collaboration between MQM-P and ANP in Karachi as a groundbreaking move for provincial and national politics.
In response, it was noted that the alliance aims to address Karachi’s challenges, leveraging ANP’s significant local influence to secure electoral success.
Previously, MQM-P secured the cooperation of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) for another Karachi provincial assembly seat. Following a seat adjustment agreement for PS-99, JUI-F’s Babar Qamar stepped aside, endorsing MQM-P’s Farhan Ansari. The two discussed constituency-specific issues during their meeting.
A strategic meeting on January 10 involved leaders from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), MQM-P, JUI-F, and ANP, focusing on an electoral alliance to challenge the PPP. The discussions aimed to present united candidates across Sindh and devise a shared strategy to combat the region’s corruption, inefficiency, and mismanagement.
