MQM chief Altaf Hussain threatened earlier today that his party may abstain from voting for the election chairman and deputy chairman Senate.
“If PML-N and PPP do not give guarantee for fulfilling 100 percent demands of the MQM, then the party’s negotiating team may decide to abstain from the voting,” a statement from the party’s London headquarters quoted Hussain as saying while talking to members of the MQM’s negotiating team for Senate elections.
Altaf Hussain gave full authority to the MQM’s Coordination Committee and the negotiating team to decide on the matter.
Meanwhile, the ruling PML-N has stepped up its efforts to win over MQM support.
Last night, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif telephoned Hussain to gain his support for the election of chairman and deputy chairman of the upper house.
