Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM)’s lawmakers to resign from the assemblies.
MQM’s Rabita (Coordination) Committee reached this decision in its simultaneous meetings in London and Karachi. The party chief Altaf Hussain also gave a go-ahead for this decision regarding the resignation move today.
The MQM members have readied their resignations. The handwritten resignations are duly signed by the respective lawmakers.
The party’s parliamentary leader in National Assembly has already received resignation letters from all the members. Earlier, the MQM’s MNAs continued their brainstorming session through the night for an usually prolonged span of three to four hours at the Parliament Lodges.
The sources said the MQM’s lawmakers are poised to tender their resignations in today’s Lower House session in protest against the ongoing Karachi operation, which MQM believes, was initiated to exclusively victimize the party.
After receiving approval from the party’s London-based founder Altaf Hussain, the resignations will be submitted to NA speaker today.
MQM is a large party that has 51 seats in Sindh’s provincial assembly and 24 in the National Assembly. The Parliament will face another critical situation if the MQM quits the assemblies.
