Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced on September 27, 2025, that he will personally pay the International Cricket Council (ICC) fine imposed on pacer Haris Rauf. The 30% match fee penalty stemmed from “abusive language” during Pakistan’s September 21 Asia Cup group match against India at Dubai International Stadium.
During the tense India-Pakistan encounter, Rauf had a heated exchange with Indian openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill in the fifth over. While fielding near the boundary, Rauf responded to jeers by showing fingers indicating “0-6.” This referenced Pakistan’s claims of downing six Indian jets in a May 2025 border clash. ICC match referee Andy Pycroft upheld the violation.

Teammate Sahibzada Farhan received a warning for his gunshot celebration after scoring a half-century in the same match. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) lodged a complaint with the ICC against both players. They cited unacceptable conduct. Abhishek Sharma accused Pakistan of “coming at us for no reason” in the post-match presentation.
Local media reports indicate Naqvi’s decision reflects PCB’s solidarity with Rauf. The chairman emphasised the importance of supporting players amid controversies. The move comes after BCCI’s formal protest, highlighting ongoing India-Pakistan cricket tensions.
Rauf’s fine, part of ICC’s code of conduct enforcement, underscores the scrutiny on high-stakes matches. With 70% of cricket fans following India-Pakistan rivalries (Nielsen, 2024), such incidents amplify diplomatic and sporting debates. Naqvi’s action boosts team morale ahead of future clashes.
