In the exciting final of the IBSF World Snooker Championship, Asif overcame Iran’s Asian champion, Ali Ghareghozlou, with a score of 5-3. Reports from Qatar highlighted Asif’s outstanding form throughout the 9-frame final, where he again dominated his opponent to secure the championship.
This triumph places Asif on par with India’s Pankaj Advani, who also boasts three World Snooker Championship titles.
Asif delivered a stellar performance throughout the tournament, achieving a record six-century breaks. He advanced to the final by defeating Cyprus’ Michael Georgiou 5-3 in a gripping match.
At 42, the Faisalabad native first captured the IBSF World Snooker Championship title in 2012 and repeated this success in 2019.
After his victory, Alamgir Sheikh, the Chairman of the Pakistan Snooker and Billiards Association, and other officials congratulated Asif, heralding his win as a monumental honour for Pakistan.
They hoped Asif’s third world title would receive recognition and accolades akin to Arshad Nadeem’s gold medal in javelin at the Paris Olympics.
