Narendra Modi is scheduled to be sworn in for his third term on June 9, with several neighbouring country leaders set to attend.
The guest list includes Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sri Lanka’s President Ranil Wickremasinghe, Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, and Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kumar Dahal “Prachanda.”
The ANI reports enhanced security measures to ensure the safety of the visiting dignitaries for the event. Leaders from the global community, including U.S. President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and French President Emmanuel Macron, have extended their congratulations to Modi.
Despite the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning 240 seats, below the majority mark of 272, Modi has garnered support from regional allies within the National Democratic Alliance, specifically the Telugu Desam Party and the Janata Dal (United).
However, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has not congratulated Modi. Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch emphasized India’s sovereign right to select its leadership, noting the ongoing government formation process. She highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful relations and dialogue, particularly regarding Jammu and Kashmir, but criticized India’s actions on August 5, 2019, and recent hostile rhetoric. Baloch expressed hope for steps towards a conducive dialogue environment.
