In a surprising development, Ali Wazir, a member of Pakistan’s National Assembly (MNA), was taken into custody in North Waziristan months after his release from prison. The specifics of the charges that led to his arrest remain unclear.
This incident occurred just a few days after the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) cybercrime circle summoned Wazir, alongside Manzoor Pashteen, to answer charges of mutiny linked to their social media posts.
The FIA notified Wazir, Pashteen, and three others to present themselves at the agency’s Peshawar office on June 23.
A Look Back at Wazir’s Previous Imprisonment
Ali Wazir, an MNA from South Waziristan, was released from the Karachi Central Jail on February 14 after spending more than two years behind bars. His arrest on December 16, 2020, in Peshawar, was connected to a case filed against him at the Sohrab Goth Police Station in Karachi.
The charges pertained to alleged seditious activity, specifically making hate speeches directed against state institutions. Following this, he was arrested for similar charges in the port city and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
