Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has unveiled “Mirzapur: The Film,” exciting fans with the promise of an intense cinematic journey. The announcement via social media features beloved characters from the hit series, such as Kaleen Bhaiyya, Guddu Bhaiyya, and Munna Bhaiyya.
In a teaser video, Akhtar revealed that, unlike the series, the film would debut in theatres, shifting away from an OTT premiere. The teaser also teases a gripping storyline with the surprising return of Divyendu Sharma’s character, Munna Tripathi, who was previously thought dead at the end of season two.
Akhtar’s post, MirzapurTheFilm, has stirred considerable fan enthusiasm.
The film will boast an ensemble cast including Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyendu Sharma, and Abhishek Banerjee, all reprising their roles. Puneet Krishna, who also crafted the series, scripted the movie, which will be released theatrically in 2026 and will subsequently stream on Amazon Prime Video.
“Mirzapur,” which premiered in November 2018 on Amazon Prime, has garnered a strong fanbase with its raw depiction of crime and power struggles in Uttar Pradesh’s Purvanchal region. Following the third season’s finale in July 2024, fans have been eagerly awaiting more content.
