Microsoft has announced the retirement of the GPT Builder feature from its Copilot Pro subscription, effective between July 10 and July 14.

The GPT Builder and all created Copilot GPTs and their associated data will be discontinued, impacting users’ ability to access these tools.

Introduced three months ago with the launch of Copilot Pro globally, GPT Builder allowed subscribers to create specialized AI agents for specific tasks. These mini chatbots, tailored with particular instructions and knowledge bases, were designed to enhance productivity by analyzing research papers for inconsistencies.

Wait, what? Microsoft will remove the ability to create GPTs starting on July 10, 2024, and then remove all GPTs (created by Microsoft and by customers) along with their associated GPT data pic.twitter.com/XZQEK052Lw

Despite the feature’s recent introduction and potential utility, Microsoft is opting to focus on the core functionalities of Copilot without providing specific reasons for the discontinuation. This shift affects only the consumer version of the platform, as GPT capabilities will continue to be available for commercial and enterprise clients.

Microsoft advises users to export the instructions for any GPTs created before the discontinuation date. After July 14, access to these GPTs and their data will be blocked, and Microsoft plans to delete any relevant user data from its servers. Users can retrieve their GPT instructions by accessing the GPT in edit mode and navigating to the Configure tab.
