Formula 1 icon Michael Schumacher was reportedly spotted in public for the first time in 11 years, attending his daughter Gina-Marie’s wedding in Mallorca.
Since a severe brain injury from a 2013 skiing accident, the 55-year-old has maintained strict privacy. His recent appearance was at his family’s luxurious villa.
Gina-Marie, 27, married Iain Bethke, also 27, in a private ceremony on the Schumacher estate. The four-acre property features two swimming pools, a helipad, and extensive gardens. The Schumachers acquired it in 2017 from Real Madrid’s chairman Florentino Perez.
The event, conducted under stringent security, marked Schumacher’s first public engagement since his accident. To ensure privacy, guests had to leave their phones at the entrance.
The Schumacher family, especially his wife Corinna, has been vigilant about his privacy, limiting his access to immediate family and a small medical team. Michael has grown distant from extended family, including his brother Ralf, a former F1 driver.
Ralf Schumacher, 49, has expressed his support despite the estrangement. “Seeing his children, Gina-Maria and Mick, brings joy to my heart,” he told Bunte.
The ceremony started around 4 p.m., signalling that the family’s privacy measures might soften. Speculation is growing that Schumacher might appear at more public events, possibly even his son Mick’s, who is rumoured to be engaged to Danish model Laila Hasanovic.
Mick Schumacher, now an F1 reserve driver, shared his joy on Instagram: “I’m so happy for you two.”
This rare public outing by Michael Schumacher has sparked hope among fans that the legendary driver may increase his public presence.
