In the early hours of Saturday, Meta’s social media platforms experienced a two-hour outage. The disruption affected thousands of users globally, with complaints peaking at nearly 20,000 regarding issues with Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
Pakistan experienced the outage from midnight until 3:00 am, aligning with outage tracking website Downdetector.com’s reported timeframe.
Meta stated in a statement on Twitter, 49% of users experienced messaging issues on WhatsApp, 32% could not send voice notes, and 19% found the app entirely non-functional.
On Instagram, 42% of users encountered problems using the app, 35% had difficulty logging in, and 23% couldn’t load the website. Facebook saw 46% of users unable to log into the app, 34% unable to access the website, and 20% experiencing server connection issues.
By 22:30 GMT, outage reports reduced to less than 500, according to Reuters citing Downdetector.
At 1:45 am, Meta acknowledged the issue on Twitter, assuring users they were working to resolve it. By 4:26 am, the company announced the issue had been fixed, thanking users for their patience. Meta did not provide any explanation for the outage.
