Meta Platforms, led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, unveiled a standalone AI app on April 30, 2025, designed to compete with industry leaders like ChatGPT, Grok, and Gemini.
Announced in a video, the app, powered by the Llama 4 model, builds on Meta AI’s existing reach of nearly 1 billion monthly users across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. “We’ve created a standalone app for them to explore,” Zuckerberg said, highlighting its ability to tailor responses based on user preferences and platform activity, such as Instagram posts.

The app functions as a versatile personal assistant, supporting text and voice interactions, and integrates with Meta’s ecosystem, enabling features like AI-generated post sharing and compatibility with Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, replacing the Meta View app.
With enhanced reasoning and multilingual capabilities, Llama 4 offers efficiency and personalisation for tasks like generating recipes or images. Meta is hosting LlamaCon, its first AI developer conference, to showcase the technology and attract developers.
Speaking with Meta's Mark Zuckerberg, at LlamaCon 2025, Microsoft's Satya Nadella noted that 20-30% of Microsoft's code is now generated by AI, while Zuckerberg predicted that AI will handle half of Meta's software development within a year https://t.co/uaKob8atLa pic.twitter.com/najzJODb0z
