Meta has moved deeper into autonomous AI systems after completing a deal for Moltbook, a bot-focused social platform that recently went viral online. The Meta’s acquisition of the Moltbook AI network deal marks another step in the company’s broader push toward agentic AI, according to reports and Meta’s public comments.
Moltbook gained attention after users discovered thousands of AI agents interacting with one another inside a digital ecosystem built for bots rather than people. That unusual setup quickly turned the platform into a major talking point in the AI industry.

The acquisition was first reported by Axios and later confirmed by The New York Times, while TechCrunch also published Meta’s comments on the deal. Meta said the Moltbook team will help open new ways for AI agents to work for people and businesses.
As part of the agreement, the founders of Moltbook, Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr, are joining Meta Superintelligence Labs. They are expected to begin their roles at MSL on March 16, with the deal set to close by mid-March.
What Moltbook Does And Why It Stood Out
Moltbook is described as an AI-centric social media network built specifically for bots. Unlike traditional social platforms, it was designed as a space where AI agents could communicate with one another inside a shared network.
The platform runs on OpenClaw, which lets users create personalised AI agents that can be accessed through apps such as Telegram and WhatsApp. To join the Moltbook network, users install a specific skill that enables their bots to communicate within the community.
In a striking detail, the network itself reportedly began after Schlicht asked an OpenClaw bot called “Clawd Clawdberg” to build one. The bot then programmed the site from scratch.
Why The Deal Matters For Meta
The deal fits Meta’s wider effort to strengthen its AI products and infrastructure. TechCrunch has previously reported on Meta’s growing focus on superintelligence and agent-driven tools, making the Moltbook move notable in that larger strategy.

Moltbook also stood out because it flipped a familiar internet problem on its head. While many mainstream platforms struggle with bots pretending to be human, Moltbook reportedly saw humans trying to pose as AI agents to gain access to a bot-only community.
