Met Gala Theme 2024: Everything You Need to Know About This Year’s Event

The Met Gala returns in 2024, promising a night of glamour at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on May 6. Known as the Costume Institute Benefit, this annual fundraiser dazzles as fashion’s premier event.

The Met Gala honours the Costume Institute, now the Anna Wintour Costume Center, named after Vogue’s long-serving editor-in-chief. This year, the gala continues its tradition of being held on the first Monday in May.

2024 Met Gala Theme
This year’s theme is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” It is paired with a dress code titled “The Garden of Time,” inspired by J.G. Ballard’s 1962 story. Vogue indicates that guests will wear botanical and floral-inspired attire.

The accompanying exhibition will feature around 250 unique pieces from the Costume Institute, highlighting sustainable designs across three zones: Land, Sea, and Sky. Prominent houses like Schiaparelli and Dior will be featured.

2024 Met Gala Hosts
Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth will host, and they succeeded last year’s hosts, including Penelope Cruz and Dua Lipa. Red carpet events start at 17:00 ET, with Vogue beginning its livestream at 18:00 ET.
