The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset is reportedly set to outperform Apple’s A18 Pro SoC in GPU benchmarks, delivering 86% higher GPU performance. Scheduled for an October launch, the new MediaTek chipset is poised to exceed Apple’s latest offering and the flagship Snapdragon processor.
Leaks suggest that on the GFX Aztec 1440p off-screen Vulcan benchmark, the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC scored 134fps. This score reportedly surpasses the Apple A18 Pro by 86% and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 by 41%. These chipsets power the iPhone 16 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S24 series.
The Aztec test, part of the GFXBench suite, simulates a 3D gaming environment to test GPU capabilities intensively. Given that Vulcan is a sophisticated graphics API, this benchmark is quite demanding.
However, it is important to note that these results reflect the GPU’s raw performance in a controlled test setting. Real-world performance may vary depending on the device’s optimization and usage conditions. Additionally, when implemented in a smartphone and optimized further, the actual performance might be lower than these initial tests suggest.
Last month, reports also indicated that the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 could deliver a 30% increase in CPU performance over its predecessor, requiring only 30% of the power the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset needs to perform similar tasks. This could enhance the new chipset’s efficiency significantly compared to earlier models.
