Maryam Nawaz, accompanied by Nawaz Sharif, is visiting Geneva and the United Kingdom for a medical check-up.

A couple of journalists have reported that doctors have diagnosed her with throat cancer, but PML-N sources have neither confirmed nor denied these reports.

While in Geneva, Maryam Nawaz has appeared in photos wearing luxurious branded accessories such as scarves, glasses, and fur coats. Her distinctive and elegant fashion sense consistently draws public attention and commentary.

On social media, users have discussed the extravagant nature of her accessories, noting the high costs associated with items like Christian Dior sunglasses, which range from $590 to $860 in the U.S., a blueberry cashmere scarf priced at $590, and a fur coat valued around $10,000. These discussions have also raised ethical concerns about the impact of producing such high-end items, particularly fur coats.

Critics have described Maryam as projecting an insecure and self-centred persona through her choice of expensive attire. For example, her Dior sunglasses cost approximately 378 euros, translating to 111,618.22 Pakistani rupees, and a Burberry silk scarf priced at about $450, or 125,077.50 Pakistani rupees.

Amid Pakistan’s economic difficulties, such lavish spending by public figures has drawn sharp criticism. One social media user highlighted the disparity between her luxurious lifestyle and the country’s economic struggles. She pointed out that her fur coat alone costs between $24,000 and $71,000, her glasses about $1,140, and a Hermes Birkin bag approximately $60,000. This luxury, they argue, shows a lack of sensitivity to the hardships faced by many Pakistanis.
