The PML-N is set to hold its inaugural Punjab parliamentary board meeting today to outline the formation of the provincial government. Maryam Nawaz, designated as the Punjab chief minister candidate and senior vice president, will lead the session at Jati Umra, Lahore, at 2 pm. She will unveil her vision and strategies for her tenure, marking a historic moment as the potential first female chief minister of the province. The meeting will also cover election strategies for the Punjab assembly’s speaker and deputy speaker roles.
Maryam Nawaz’s nomination follows her electoral success in the recent general elections, securing each seat in the National Assembly (NA-119) and the Punjab Assembly (PP-159) in Lahore. Amid speculation, there’s anticipation that Nawaz Sharif might join from Murree or via video link.
PML-N has mandated the presence of its newly-elected Punjab Assembly members at the meeting. Independents aligning with PML-N have also formalized their allegiance through affidavits to the ECP. A senior party figure highlighted that, with reserved seats accounted for, PML-N’s strength in the assembly approaches 200 members.
The reveal of the speaker, deputy speaker, and cabinet positions remains pending, hinging on PML-N’s talks with the PPP for a central government coalition. This strategy suggests potential PPP representation in Punjab’s governance structure, hence the confidentiality around these appointments.
