Ending speculations, PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz confirmed the return of Nawaz Sharif, the three-time former Prime Minister, to Pakistan on October 21 during a PML-N Youth Volunteers meeting in Lahore on Sunday.
Despite earlier concerns due to the Supreme Court’s move to reopen corruption cases, Maryam reassured that Nawaz’s return plans remain unchanged and he is prepared for “all kinds of circumstances”. Nawaz, who has been in self-imposed exile in London since 2019 due to health issues, will return stronger, as per Maryam. The PML-N legal team will seek bail from the Lahore High Court to prevent Nawaz’s arrest upon arrival, as he has been declared a proclaimed offender.
Shift in PML-N Narrative
The narrative of PML-N is pivoting towards economic revival rather than anti-establishment rhetoric, a decision reached during several meetings in London last month attended by key PML-N figures. Nawaz’s return will focus on addressing economic, governance, and public issues, avoiding confrontation with military establishments. This shift intends to direct attention towards future progress instead of past grievances.
Although aggrieved over the alleged military establishment’s interference in the 2018 elections, Nawaz and his colleagues believe that focusing on the future is the pragmatic approach for PML-N’s long-term stability and electoral success. By aligning with this stance, Maryam emphasized the importance of winning elections and delivering for the masses to ensure PML-N’s relevance and integrity.
