Mariah Carey is making headlines with high expectations for the upcoming Christmas Time tour, reinforcing her well-known diva persona.
As she prepares to celebrate the 30th anniversary of her classic holiday hit, “All I Want for Christmas is You,” Carey, at 55, is planning a spectacular season show. This tour promises to be grand, marking three decades since the song’s release.
Insiders claim Carey’s list of demands includes having only “hot” men as her main backup dancers and avoiding anyone she finds unattractive. She’s also insisted on hair and makeup for rehearsals, a demand aligning with her diva status.
“Mariah is just being so extra this year,” a source told DailyMail.com. “With the hefty paycheck she’s receiving, she wants everything to be perfect, starting rehearsals as early as the end of September.”
Additionally, production staff directly involved with the tour must not speak to or photograph Carey.
Despite the tour’s brief span of just 21 dates, Carey is poised to earn millions. This substantial earning potential comes as no surprise, given that her perennial holiday song has generated $70 million and still brings in about $3 million annually, according to The New York Post.
Celebrating the song’s 30th anniversary, Carey launched The Fantasy tour last August. She typically receives about 20% in royalties. She has fully embraced her role as a Christmas icon, annually announcing the start of the holiday season on November 1st with her signature, “It’s timeeeee.”
Reflecting on her first Christmas album, “Merry Christmas,” Carey told the LA Times in 2020 that it was a significant early career move. In a 2023 Parade interview, she detailed composing the famous song in a modest room in Upstate New York, using a basic keyboard and capturing everything that evoked the festive spirit for her.
