The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) swiftly doused a fire that erupted near Faisal Mosque in the Margalla Hills on Monday, March 31, 2025.
CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa led the charge, with his spokesperson confirming a robust response. Over 64 firefighters, backed by CDA’s Environment Wing and other teams, used fire brigade vehicles to contain the blaze before it spread further.
Following Randhawa’s orders, extra surveillance and patrol teams now guard the Margalla Hills to bolster monitoring. More personnel have also joined firefighting efforts to curb future risks. “Our quick action stopped a potential disaster,” a CDA official noted. The hills, a cherished natural spot, are now under tighter watch.
Karachi Fire Lingers On
Meanwhile, a fire sparked during water boring near Korangi Crossing on Saturday, March 29, still burns. Ignited at over 1,100 feet deep, the blaze stems from a gas-water mix, said KMC Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan. Though intense, experts predict it’ll fade as the shallow gas depletes—no injuries or damage reported in this empty plot. Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi and Mayor Murtaza Wahab assured ongoing oversight, with teams on-site.
PRL’s Zahid Mir linked the fire to nearby oil refineries, noting such events typically last one to three weeks. Authorities are probing the gas type and securing the area. While Islamabad celebrates a win, Karachi braces for a slow burn’s end.
