Lahore: Mango exports are expected to begin from the first week of August with the delivery of Multan, Rahim Yar Khan and Muzaffargarh’s Chaunsa variety.

Exports from Punjab are expected to go high, up to 10,000 MT, during the current season due to a good yield.

Major importers of Punjabi Chaunsa mangoes are Dubai and United Kingdom (UK) where Pakistanis are in large numbers.

The exports will continue till the end of October, said sources in the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP).

According to the exporters in Punjab, Pakistan exported a record 91,700 tons of mangoes in 2014 and 82,000 in 2013.

It is pertinent to mention here that mango exports increased in 2014 as compared to 2013 despite EU’s strict watch on the quality of mangoes.

Similarly, Pakistan earned Rs4.9 billion from the export of mangoes to different regions of the world in 2014.

Export to the Europe Union (EU) increased by 8,500 metric tons in 2014.

Pakistan is the sixth largest producer of mangoes with a total production capacity of around 1.8 million tons a year; country exports only 8% of its production.

Pakistan exports mango to almost 56 countries including EU.
