Manchester United has reached an agreement to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for a fee that could rise to £71 million. The 25-year-old Cameroon international will undergo his medical examination at Old Trafford before joining the squad for their pre-season tour of the United States, starting July 22, 2025.
Mbeumo becomes United’s third signing of the summer, following forward Matheus Cunha and left-back Diego Leon. United increased their offer to £65 million guaranteed, with an additional £6 million in potential add-ons, after Brentford rejected earlier bids of £55 million and £62.5 million. David Ornstein of The Athletic reports these latest details. Mbeumo’s impressive performances and versatility make him a valuable addition to Ruben Amorim’s high-pressing system.
United pursued Mbeumo aggressively since early June 2025. After two rejections, negotiations culminated in the £71 million agreement. Mbeumo, who joined Brentford from Lorient in 2019, has agreed personal terms. He aims to undergo his medical swiftly to integrate during the U.S. tour.

This signing addresses United’s need for attacking depth, with Mbeumo’s work rate and creativity fitting Amorim’s tactics.
Mbeumo has emerged as one of the Premier League’s top attacking talents at Brentford. Last season, he achieved career-best figures in goals, assists, chances created, and touches in the opposition box. His shot conversion rate stood at 23.53%, trailing only Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak.

Off the ball, Mbeumo excelled: He won possession 32 times in the opposition third, ranking third league-wide. He led the Premier League with nine carries over five meters, resulting in goals, per BBC data. These statistics underscore his dual threat as a scorer and creator, making him an ideal fit for United’s rebuild.
Under Amorim, United focuses on high pressing. Mbeumo’s ability to drive forward and recover possession aligns perfectly. His addition bolsters the squad’s versatility, potentially easing pressure on existing forwards.
